He was 2 years older than me. Totally gorgeous and insanely smart. A friend for almost nine years. Most of all, he shared the same heartbreak I was feeling. His was more recent than mine but equally as devastating. Left for someone else.
We had run into each other quite a bit because we frequented the same bars with the same friends. One night we took a drunken walk to the nearest store to buy some nachos and water and joked that it was our first date. During the days after that we would chat online while at work. One drunken night I had given him the spare key to my house so that he would always have a place to stay should he find himself in need of one. We were each others’ shoulders to lean on. Friend helping a friend. Completely innocent.
